Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defense (MSB) said the Somali-Turkish Task Force Air Component Command, stationed in Somalia, continues to strengthen the country’s counterterrorism capabilities through military training, advisory support, and operational assistance.
In a statement, the ministry said Somali security forces trained by Türkiye are effectively conducting counterterrorism operations within their areas of responsibility. It added that the Somali-Turkish Task Force and its Air Component Command contribute to Somalia’s security architecture through military aid, training programs, and advisory missions. “Somali security forces trained by our country are effectively carrying out counterterrorism activities within their areas of responsibility,” the ministry said. “The Somali-Turkish Task Force and the Air Component Command stationed in Somalia continue to contribute to the development of Somalia’s counterterrorism capacity through military assistance, training, and advisory support.”
Türkiye Deploys Naval Assets Off Somalia’s Coast
The MSB also announced the deployment of Türkiye’s naval assets to support the Somali-Turkish Task Force’s logistical requirements, deliver grants and foreign military assistance by sea, and provide support for research and drilling activities within the maritime jurisdiction of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The following vessels will operate in the Gulf of Aden, off the coast of Somalia, and the Arabian Sea between January 30 and February 25:
- TCG Sancaktar (L-403) – Landing Ship Tank (LST)
- TCG Gökova (F-496) – Frigate
- TCG Bafra (F-505) – Corvette
