Türkiye’s indigenous fifth-generation fighter jet program has reached a decisive milestone, as senior defense officials review progress on testing and production planning.
The KAAN National Combat Aircraft, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), is advancing toward the next stage of development, with preparations underway for its future induction into the Turkish Air Force.
Haluk Görgün, President of the Presidency of Defense Industries, visited the KAAN hangar to receive detailed briefings on the full-scale static test aircraft and inspect ongoing work on site.
Prototype and Static Test Aircraft Displayed Together
During the visit, the prototype aircraft — which completed its maiden flight in 2024 — was displayed alongside the full-scale static test aircraft in the same hangar.
Officials said the side-by-side display reflects synchronized progress in:
- Flight testing
- Structural validation
- Qualification processes
- Serial production preparation
The development roadmap is proceeding in line with the program schedule, according to the statement.
Contract Process for Turkish Air Force Delivery Initiated
Authorities confirmed that the contract phase for delivering KAAN to the Turkish Air Force has begun. The program aims to field a next-generation combat aircraft designed for long-term operational service and sustained modernization.
The domestic industrial ecosystem supporting KAAN includes:
- More than 300 companies
- Operations across 20+ cities
- Over 5,000 qualified personnel
In parallel, efforts continue on indigenous engine development and phased capability enhancements.
