ASELSAN has successfully completed another round of testing for its YILDIRIM-100 Directed Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) system. Designed to counter the rising threat of infrared-guided missiles in modern warfare, the YILDIRIM-100 is set to play a critical role in protecting Turkey’s aerial platforms.
DIRCM systems are advanced electronic countermeasure technologies that protect aircraft from infrared (IR)-guided threats, such as man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS). Unlike traditional flare-based defenses, DIRCM uses laser-directed energy to disrupt and neutralize a missile’s guidance system, rendering it ineffective before impact.
Key Features of ASELSAN’s YILDIRIM-100:
- Laser-based infrared countermeasure technology
- Advanced Missile Warning System (MWS) integration
- Gimbal-based precision guidance and targeting
- Compatible with large air platforms, including the A400M
- Fully ITAR-free, enabling broader export potential
The YILDIRIM-100 was successfully integrated into various Turkish platforms—HÜRKUŞ, T625 GÖKBEY, ANKA, AKSUNGUR, and A400M—after completing integration and validation tests in 2024. In 2025, it achieved positive results during operational field testing, marking another significant milestone for Turkey’s defense industry.
TUSAŞ’s Strategic Role
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) is a key partner in the development and platform integration of YILDIRIM-100. The company collaborates closely with ASELSAN to perform qualification testing and system integration across multiple air platforms.
This strategic cooperation exemplifies Turkey’s growing self-reliance in defense technology and aligns with national efforts to reduce dependency on foreign systems—particularly those restricted under ITAR regulations.
ITAR-Free Advantage
The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), governed by the U.S. Department of State, restrict the export, licensing, and co-production of U.S.-origin defense technology. Products not subject to ITAR, like the YILDIRIM-100, offer greater flexibility in export and international partnerships, especially with friendly and allied nations.
