Turkiye has delivered the domestically developed Denizhan-76 naval gun to its Naval Forces Command, marking a further step in strengthening indigenous naval capabilities. The 76/62 mm system, produced by Machinery and Chemical Industries Inc. (MKE), was commissioned after completing factory acceptance and live-fire tests and integrated into the MİLGEM program for deployment on TCG Akdeniz.
The latest delivery brings the total number of Denizhan-76 systems in service to six. The gun is designated as the main armament for MİLGEM İSTİF-class frigates, under a procurement program involving MKE, STM, and TAİS Shipyards.
Officials stated the system was developed entirely with domestic resources to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers and mitigate risks associated with export restrictions and extended delivery timelines. “The project was initiated following challenges in procuring foreign systems, including delays of up to 24 months and embargo-related disruptions,” officials noted.
The Denizhan-76 was developed under MKE’s leadership with contributions from private sector partners responsible for mechanical subsystems and fire control components. MKE manufactured critical elements such as the barrel and barrel jacket.
Technically, the system features a hybrid servo-hydraulic architecture and a fully digital control infrastructure, enabling integration with the ship’s Combat Operations Center. It supports a wide range of ammunition types, including programmable and special-fuse rounds, enhancing operational flexibility in naval engagements.
The deployment of the Denizhan-76 is expected to improve fleet readiness and sustainment by ensuring supply chain security and reducing dependence on imported naval guns. It also aligns with Turkiye’s broader strategy to expand its domestic defense industry and strengthen naval deterrence under the MİLGEM program.
