The TOLUN guided munition, developed by ASELSAN, successfully struck a target at a distance exceeding 100 kilometers during a long-range test, marking a key milestone in Türkiye’s precision-guided weapons program.
The test confirmed TOLUN’s extended range, high strike accuracy, and multi-target engagement capability under operational conditions.
Technical Characteristics and Integration
Classified in the 250-pound class, TOLUN is guided by an Inertial Navigation System (INS) supported by Global Positioning System (GPS) inputs. The munition is compatible with ASELSAN’s SADAK family of multi-carriage launchers, which allow aircraft to carry multiple munitions simultaneously.
The SADAK-4T configuration increases the number of munitions per sortie, while the single-carriage variant, TOLUN-SI, provides independent carriage capability. Featuring a penetrating warhead and reinforced nose structure, TOLUN is capable of penetrating up to one meter of reinforced concrete, making it effective against hardened and armored targets.
A cockpit-programmable electronic fuse optimizes detonation timing to maximize damage against hard targets.
Operational Capabilities
Designed for low collateral damage and high precision, TOLUN is suitable for engagements near civilian areas. Its folding wing design enables extended range, while all-weather, day-and-night operation ensures flexibility across diverse mission profiles.
The munition employs an anti-jam CRPA antenna within its ANS/KKS guidance architecture, providing strong resistance to GNSS jamming. Advanced features include waypoint navigation and in-flight retargeting.
When released from fighter aircraft, TOLUN achieves a range of approximately 102 kilometers; when launched from unmanned aerial platforms, its range is about 57 kilometers. The system has been integrated on the F-16, AKINCI, ANKA-III, Bayraktar TB2, and Bayraktar TB3 platforms.
TOLUN F: Fragmentation Variant Enters Service
In early December 2025, ASELSAN unveiled TOLUN F, a fragmentation-effective variant of the TOLUN family, following a successful live-fire test conducted from the AKINCI unmanned combat aerial vehicle. The test demonstrated the weapon’s ability to be deployed multiple times within a single sortie using the SADAK-4T multi-carriage pod.
TOLUN F is a 250-pound-class, ANS/KKS-guided full-burst munition designed to expand target sets beyond hardened structures.
TOLUN F and TOLUN FSI Configurations
When integrated with SADAK multi-carriage pods, TOLUN F increases the number of weapons that can be carried per aircraft. Due to interface differences, the independently carried version is designated TOLUN FSI.
The system offers a range of approximately 87 kilometers when launched from manned combat aircraft and 52 kilometers from UAV platforms. Its 70-kilogram warhead is guided with a circular error probable (CEP) of less than three meters.
Advanced Fuse and Approach Sensor
TOLUN F incorporates a cockpit-programmable time-delay electronic fuse and an approach sensor, enabling air-burst detonation at a predetermined distance from the target. This feature enhances lethality against area and soft-to-medium hardened targets while maintaining precision in urban or sensitive environments.
TOLUN Family Structure
ASELSAN positions TOLUN F within a broader modular munition family that includes:
- TOLUN – GPS/INS-guided air-to-ground munition
- TOLUN-IIR – GPS/INS with infrared imaging seeker and man-in-the-loop capability
- TOLUN-S – Enhanced ground-launched variant
Defense industry analysts highlight TOLUN F’s fragmentation warhead, electronic warfare-resistant navigation architecture, and multi-shot sortie capability as distinguishing features within its class.
