The Low-Visibility Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) TOYGUN, developed by ASELSAN, has been successfully integrated into Turkey’s unmanned combat aircraft Bayraktar KIZILELMA, completing its first flight test with full success.
According to Baykar, the system allows KIZILELMA to perform advanced targeting operations while preserving its low-visibility signature, marking a significant breakthrough in Turkish aviation.
High-Performance Results in Flight Tests
TOYGUN EOTS—ASELSAN’s most advanced infrared-band electro-optical product—demonstrated exceptional performance during two flight tests conducted last week at the Çorlu AKINCI Flight Training and Test Center.
The test campaign successfully verified:
- Stable image generation across various altitude and speed regimes
- Long-range tracking stability on moving targets
- High accuracy in laser designation functions
- Seamless data exchange with the KIZILELMA mission computer
- Reliable operation under harsh environmental conditions
These outcomes confirm that the system meets all required technical criteria, paving the way for serial integration on the KIZILELMA fleet.
A World First in Unmanned Combat Aircraft
For the first time globally, an embedded EOTS system has been implemented in an unmanned combat aircraft.
Unlike aircraft such as the F-16, where targeting systems are carried in external pods, TOYGUN is fully embedded into the KIZILELMA fuselage, preserving the aircraft’s low radar cross-section.
This level of technology is typically found only in 5th-generation manned fighters like the F-35. With this capability, Turkey becomes one of only three countries in the world to achieve such integration.
Specially Optimized for KIZILELMA’s Combat Concept
TOYGUN has been tailored for KIZILELMA’s unmanned combat requirements. Its wide-spectrum imaging and scanning capabilities provide 360° situational awareness, enabling the aircraft to penetrate deep into contested zones without compromising stealth.
The system allows KIZILELMA to:
- Detect and identify targets from long distances using high-resolution infrared imaging
- Conduct laser designation missions without exposing its radar signature
- Perform autonomous engagements thanks to AI-assisted target tracking and classification
- Execute high-precision strikes with Turkish-made smart munitions
With these features, TOYGUN EOTS significantly enhances KIZILELMA’s autonomous combat capability, situational awareness, and survivability in high-threat environments.
