The PT-3 and PT-4 prototypes of the Bayraktar TB3 successfully performed a simultaneous (salvo) launch from the TCG Anadolu, armed with Roketsan’s MAM-L smart munitions. During the test, both UAVs precisely struck their designated targets, marking a significant milestone in naval UAV operations. The strike was supported by ASELSAN’s ASELFLIR-500 and CATS electro-optical systems, both developed domestically.
As the first unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) capable of taking off and landing from short-runway naval ships, the TB3 showcased its maritime operational potential. This successful live-fire test, following the earlier takeoff and landing trials conducted on November 19, 2024, confirmed the TB3’s capability to execute effective sea-based strike missions.
Conducted as part of the DENİZKURDU exercise in the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas, the test highlighted the growing operational reach of TCG Anadolu and its air wing. To date, Bayraktar TB3 has accumulated over 700 hours of flight testing. Notably, during a long-endurance test flight on December 20, 2023, it flew continuously for 32 hours, covering 5,700 km.
On March 26, 2024, the ASELFLIR-500 system flew integrated with TB3 for the first time, reinforcing its capability as one of the world’s leading electro-optical systems for reconnaissance, surveillance, and targeting.
The MAM-L smart ammunition used in the tests has been exported to over 40 countries, reflecting its global reliability. TB3 has also achieved firing success with the MAM-T and the İHA-122 supersonic missile, demonstrating its multi-munition compatibility.
Significantly, TB3’s ability to deploy sonobuoys opens the door for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions. Its capacity to transmit real-time targeting data to allied units enhances not only its strike efficiency but also its role in ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) operations.
Designed with folding wings for carrier-based deployment, the Bayraktar TB3 features Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) communication, enabling long-range missions. With these advanced capabilities, TB3 is set to become a key force multiplier for the Turkish Armed Forces, enhancing deterrence through overseas strike, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
