The Ministry of National Defense announced the start of construction of key defence projects at its weekly press briefing. Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, Press and Public Relations Advisor, provided an update on the Ministry’s activities and recent developments.
Major milestones in Turkish defence projects
National Submarine (MİLDEN): The first welding of the MİLDEN project was carried out at the Gölcük Shipyard Command.
TF-2000 Air Defence Warfare Destroyer & National Aircraft Carrier: The first sheet metal cuts for these projects were completed at Istanbul Shipyard Command, marking the start of their construction phases.
Rear Admiral Aktürk emphasised Turkey’s maritime goals, saying: “We aim to enhance the capabilities of our Navy on a global scale and fly our glorious flag in all seas and oceans of interest, as well as in our blue homeland and surrounding waters. Currently, the simultaneous construction of 31 ships is successfully continuing in domestic shipyards to create a more modern, effective and powerful Navy”.
The Ministry also highlighted progress in projects addressing the needs of the Land Forces Command. The following systems have successfully completed the inspection and acceptance phases:
